Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: An Introduction

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy is an evidence-based treatment model and systematic approach to dealing with children's and adolescents' psychological trauma. The World Health Organization has recommended and endorsed this intervention in the Guidelines for the Management of Conditions Specifically Related to Stress. The interactive lecture will include information on identifying appropriate candidates for TF-CBT, a description of core components, and illustrations of its use through a case presentation and video demonstrations.

This two-hour presentation will provide an introductory overview of TF-CBT and its use with traumatized children and adolescents in the Philippine context. By the end of the lecture, participants should be able to:

  • Assess a candidates appropriateness for the use of TF-CBT;
  • Describe the core components of TF-CBT;
  • Demonstrate basic components of TF-CBT in the Philippine context.
