Making Sense of Our Clients A Workshop on Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning

This 2-day workshop aims to introduce and practice the case conceptualization approach towards treatment planning of clients with mental health concerns. It targets psychologists, guidance counselors and clinical social workers who are involved in assessing and/or managing such clients. It endeavors participants to have a deeper understanding of the utility and practice the rudiments of doing case conceptualization (Berman, 2019) of clients undergoing either multi-method psychological assessment or just an assessment interview toward treatment planning. This approach is linked with treatment planning using the Systematic Treatment Selection (Beutler & Amp; Clarkin, 2011). Participants are required to bring to the workshop a client’s assessment data (informed consent of the client is necessary before doing this) that will be used in the workshop. After participating in a group exercise of doing case conceptualization and treatment planning, small groups are engaged in a workshop of doing the same process for their own clients. The workshop culminates with presentations and group critique of the proposed case conceptualization and treatment plan.
